My solar panel installation day and experience with going green.

Happy Earth Day! Go Solar!

Back in the 70’s, we used to write “Go Solar” on our electric bills. Too bad they didn’t listen to us back then. There were solar festivals everywhere with solar exhibits, panels, wind generators, solar water heaters, homemade solar cookers, commercial products of all kinds, organic gardening booths, demonstrations on how to convert lawn clippings into methanol to run our cars.

That was 40 years ago and it seems the powers that be didn’t want to listen to this mass movement of saving the planet.

Finally, more and more people are coming around to organic farming, solar panels on their roofs, wind generators, using methanol in cars and saving energy, going green. It is about time, but really 40 years late. There used to be solar panels on the White House. Lets hope they put some on again soon.

On Planet Forward‘s website, I wrote about putting solar on home instead of out in the desert. I also mentioned all the warehouses in Southern California that have empty rooftops just waiting to have solar put on them. If we did that we would not have to run hundreds of miles of transmission lines through the desert to power up the solar we need.

I read recently that if 3 percent of the Sahara Desert had solar panels on it, there would be enough electricity for all of Africa and Europe. Wow!

Lots to think about. Have a great Earth Day!

One Response to “Happy Earth Day! Go Solar!”

  1. With the rising cost of fossil fuels and the effect to the environment. The hazards of nuclear power plants. The more homes that switch to solar power the better. Solar panel prices have come down greatly over the past years. Do it yourself solar projects have gotten easier with all the How To help out there. Even if a person relies partially on solar power at a small cost to them the benefits for everyone is huge. Thanks Jon at solardiyinfo.org
